The trip from Ochlockonee Bay down to Palm Harbor (a northern suburb of Tampa) took us back out on highway 98. Unfortunately, this section of road wasn’t nearly as scenic as our previous trip along highway 98 with farms and pine forests taking the place of beach communities and ocean views.
We were only in Palm Harbor for a single night before we were back out on the road the next day, however, we were sure to get a bang for our buck while we were in the area. Our campground for the night was the Clearwater / Lake Tarpon KOA, which, as you can see from the banner pic, turned out to be an awesome place to stay. Not only was our site huge, but it came complete with a firepit and deck chairs. We were bummed that we would only be staying here for a single evening!
In fact, we didn’t even get to spend much time checking out the campground as we had reservations at the comedy club right up the street. Not long after getting checked and set up, we were all dressed up and making the walk over to Snappers. Although it wasn’t the best comedy that we’ve ever seen, going to see some stand-up is always fun. Plus, we got seated in the front row (Sam’s worst nightmare) which made for an “interactive” experience.
Before we knew it, it was time for us to get packed up and hit the road again. Given the quick turnaround and mild hangovers from the night before, you’d think that spirits were low, however, the excitement ahead of our next destination was enough to negate all of that negativity. Tune in next time when we chronicle our time in St. Petersburg’s Fort De Soto County Park – arguably our favorite campsite of all time!
