Palisade, Colorado (Round Two)

Palisade Basecamp RV Resort

March 14, 2021

Given the time of year, we would have probably preferred to be a bit further south at this point, but we were due in Denver for some wedding prep, so we figured that we would replay the hits from earlier in our trip. Like I mentioned in the previous post, Moab was the third stop along our journey, but this time we would be heading back to where it all began – Palisade, Colorado, our very first waypoint on our maiden voyage roughly eight months before. We even opted to stay at the same campground, Palisade Basecamp RV Resort. We loved this spot so much during the first go around, we figured why mess with success?

Sadly, this trip wasn’t nearly as fun as the first one given the seasonal nature of our favorite activities – no hikes, river floats, or winery tours in mid-March ☹. But on the bright side, although the river wasn’t quite as clear and the orchards/vineyards weren’t quite as green as they had been during our visit in the summer, we still found the bluffs to be as imposing and majestic when draped with a thin layer of snow.

Although the conditions were far from ideal, we could feel that spring was coming right around the corner. Don’t get me wrong, the wind was still howling and the clouds were spitting rain, but old man winter was beginning to show signs of letting up and the wind didn’t have quite the same bite as it had the week before. Hell, temperatures even got high enough for me to wear shorts one evening (although Sam was still bundled up) when we were blessed with a spectacular sunset on our last night in town.

Tune in next time when we brave the mighty Colorado Rockies (the mountains, not the baseball team) on our way back to Denver to meet our moms for a little wedding preparation ahead of the big day to come in late May!
